Kimi-Ari-Kumi - Ari and Kumi Character Designs

Animal studies, concept sketches, turns, and expressive artwork depicting the visual development of two fox spirits; Ari and Kumi!

Doing studies of foxes is what gave me the idea to have the two fox characters modeled after different types of foxes.

I always imagined Ari and Kumi as being silhouettes of light but originally those silhouettes had eyes! As I developed the lore I realized I wanted to make them feel more otherworldly--they're shaped like a living thing but they never were.

Originally Ari and Kumi were twins, identical except for their colors. I still imagine them as being two halves of a whole but was encouraged to visually distinguish them.

Ironically Kumi, with fire magic, is based on an arctic fox, while Ari, with a blue color scheme, is based on a red fox!

When in motion, Kumi's tail is made of fire, it flares up bigger when he's angry. With a brother like Ari, this happens often.
