Sapiens Character Designs - Marck
Here are some development sketches I did while working out the character design for Sapiens' main character: Marck! While the final design for Marck went to a different team member, I was asked to do guides for certain features simply because the team liked the way I drew Marck's fluffy cheeks and sweet smile!
After honing my gorilla drawing skills it was time to start designing characters! We almost went with the one on the lower right before we decided to go with something a bit more cartoony.
At the same time as we developed Marck we were also developing his foil--Francis. Sometimes I would draw them next to each other to try and get their designs to match.
The team really reacted to these two and they were ultimately chosen as the designs to further develop.
This is Marck's finalized design (along with Francis' nearly finalized design).
While Marck's official design was created by another artist on the team, people still liked the way I drew certain things, so I was asked to step in and make style guides for Marck's fluff and his teeth.
